Dr Yongmin Jung is a Principal Research Fellow at the ORC and has over 20 years of experience in the field of specialty optical fibres and optical amplifiers. Currently he leads the ORC research on Multicore (and Multimode) fibre technology, in which he has achieved several world-first results including: i) the world’s first multimode erbium-doped fibre amplifier, ii) setting the GUINNESS world record on multimode fibre transmission, iii) winning the EU HORIZON PRIZE for breaking the optical transmission barrier and iv) commercialization of multimode/multicore fibre amplifier technology. As a result of the cutting-edge nature of his research, he has published 3 book chapters, 6 patents and more than 370 scientific papers and has a current H-index of 47. He was one of the originators of the hugely successful EU FP7 MODE-GAP project and EU Horizon2020 SAFARI project.
