About

Dr. Meisam Jalalvand is an Associate Professor specialising in Composite Materials and Structures within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton, recognised for his expertise in the characterisation and analysis of fibre-reinforced composite materials, including carbon-fibre and glass-fibre composites. His research focuses on high-performance hybrid composites, as well as natural fibre and biodegradable composites, aiming to enhance understanding, performance, safety, and sustainability. These areas of study are particularly relevant in addressing pressing global issues such as climate change and plastic pollution. Dr. Jalalvand has successfully led multiple research projects funded by prestigious organisations, including the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Council, and the Scottish Funding Council.

Dr. Jalalvand completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran. His doctoral research involved studying the interaction of delamination and matrix cracking in composite laminates using a self-developed nonlinear Finite Element code.

Dr. Jalalvand began his career as a Research Associate at the University of Bristol in 2012, advancing to Senior Research Associate in 2016. He then joined the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow as a Chancellor’s Fellow in 2017, a role he held until 2020 when he transitioned to the University of Southampton.
