It is indeed very welcome that the European Commission is going to "test
open access for a variety of disciplines" [1]. This test of open access is
going to be pretty big, covering 10 billion euros-worth of research. Let us
hope that the "test" just evaluates the effects of OA on readership and
dissemination of information. Access is more important than citation [2].
I suppose that the test will be run some time after 2013, when the funded
projects have put in their reports. Put a note in your diary.
