I agree with Peter Banks.  I am one of those who believes gold OA won't
suceed except in small niche markets and that green OA will be the norm
in those disciplines where OA takes hold. Nonetheless, the proponents of
gold OA should be allowed their share of the debate as it is possible
that gold OA becomes widespread and does NOT turn out to be the
irritating distraction that some believe it to be.

I hope we^Òre not the the point of having litmus tests for OA
orthodoxy, whatever that orthodoxy might be, whether ^Ófull and
immediate deposit in repositories without delayed access^Ô or
^Ófull and immediate author-pays publishing^Ô or whatever.

It^Òs discouraging and more than a little insulting to those who
believe in free access and have taken risks to accomplish it^×Jan
being only one of many--to be labeled heretics. Sometimes it seems
that this list serve exists more to define doctrinal purity than to
evangelize in support of the cause.

             Extraordinary.

             No point in discussing further.

Which raises again the question of why you
            do not support mandating the
             OA by mandating self-archiving, now,
though you purport to advocate OA?

So, there's the point, again. Will we have
            a response, this time?
