France's Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS)
http://www.cnrs.fr/
is perhaps the world's largest national research institute, covering
virtually all scientific and scholarly disciplines, in a distributed
network of individual research units as well as university-associated
units all over France.
CNRS has now registered its commitment to implementing a CNRS
institutional self-archiving policy along the lines recommended:
http://www.eprints.org/signup/fulllist.php
The importance of this national institutional commitment cannot
be over-emphasized. CNRS is setting an example for the research
institutions and universities of the world.
Research institutions and universities (both those who have already
signed the Berlin Declaration and those who have not) are now invited
to register their commitment to adopting institutional self-archiving
policies of their own, along the lines recommended by the Berlin
Declaration at:
UNIVERSITIES: If you have adopted or plan to adopt an institutional
policy of providing Open Access to your own research article output,
please describe your policy at:
http://www.eprints.org/signup/sign.php
UNIFIED DUAL OPEN-ACCESS-PROVISION POLICY:
BOAI-1 ("green"): Publish your article in a suitable toll-access journal
http://romeo.eprints.org/
OR
BOAI-2 ("gold"): Publish your article in a open-access journal if/when
a suitable one exists.
http://www.doaj.org/
AND
in BOTH cases self-archive a supplementary version of your article
in your institutional repository.
