The Chronicle of Higher Education is sponsoring a live, online discussion
on the deals signed by many academic libraries in the 1990s for
"bundled"
subscriptions to electronic journals. An article in the new issue of The
Chronicle explores the concerns of many academic librarians about these
packages, as well as the reasons some librarians like these deals.
Kenneth L. Frazier, a leading critic of the package deals, will be the
guest for the online discussion, on Thursday, September 19, at 1 p.m.,
U.S. Eastern time. Mr. Frazier is director of the library system at the
University of Wisconsin at Madison and a past president of the board of
the Association of Research Libraries.
The Chronicle invites members of this list to read the article about the
issue, to join the discussion with Mr. Frazier, and to pose advance
questions or comments for him to respond to (advance questions are
encouraged and may be posted now) at:
http://chronicle.com/colloquylive/2002/09/ejournal/chat.php3
A transcript of the discussion will be posted at that URL when the chat
is
over.
