Conversion between L-Edit and Magic using GDS II

• Export GDS II from L-Edit

  
      File-> Export Mask Data-> GDSII
          fromledit.gds
  
  

• Import GDS II to Magic

  
      magic8 -T c35b4
          :gds read fromledit
          :write
  
  

or

• Export GDS II to Magic

  
      magic8 -T c35b4 cellname
          :gds write toledit
  
  

• Import GDS II to L-Edit

  
      File-> Import Mask Data-> GDSII
          toledit.gds
  
  

Conversion from L-Edit to Magic using CIF

To retain label shapes must use CIF (although CIF label formats differ and need scripts for conversion):

• Export CIF from L-Edit

  
      File -> Export Mask Data-> CIF
          fromledit.cif
  
  

• Import CIF to Magic
  • First convert rectangular labels in the CIF file from L-Edit format to CIF format

    
        convert_cif fromledit.cif tomagic.cif
    
    

    then use cif read within magic

    
        magic8 -T c35b4
            :cif read tomagic
            :write
    
    

  • Alternatively this command will extract cells into a subdirectory named CIF

    
        extract_cif_design fromledit.cif

Teams may choose to collaborate at either the magic or the L-Edit level

Be wary of off-grid data (e.g. poly wire - best avoided)

Be wary of changing default settings - e.g. snap grid or wire end shape
