Structural Dynamics

Work in this area is mainly focussed on investigations into the use of energy methods for the analysis of vibrating structures. These investigations cover theoretical work, computer simulation and the testing of small scale models (up to around 3m long). We use finite element methods as well as statistical energy analysis and standard vibration test procedures. Currently, the behaviours of camera mountings for UAVs and certain satellite structures are of particular interest to us. Details of on-going work are given in Dynamics Projects. See also the postscript version of a paper giving a summary of some of our earliest structural dynamics work (0.6Mb), a photo of an optimized structure on test in our lab (0.8Mb) and the postscript version of a paper describing satellite boom design (0.2Mb).
