The University of Southampton guidelines state that students who wish to take maternity leave will need to suspend their studies.
If you are a student who is studying in the UK on a Tier 4 Visa, a suspension will mean that we will have remove sponsorship on your visa. You will be expected to leave the UK within 60 days and you will need to apply for a new visa to return to study once your period of maternity leave is over. Some airlines have restrictions on flying whilst in the latter stages of pregnancy so it is important that you check with your airline so as to ensure that you have enough time to leave the UK.
If you leave it too late to travel or are prevented from travelling due to a pregnancy related health condition, you will need to seek the advice of a specialist immigration lawyer to switch to a different visa category to remain the UK.
